Death13 Feb 1978 Luther E. Shew died on 13 Feb 1978 at Paris, Lamar County, TX, at age 68. Obituary: THE LAMAR COUNTY ECHO, Thursday, February 23, 1978, p. 4. 'Luther E. Shew, 69, of Route 1, Paris, died Monday, February 13, 1978, in a local hospital. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Elsom officiating. Interment was made in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Shew was born October 8, 1909, in Lamar County, son of Grove C. Shew and Ora Sparks Shew. He attended public schools in Paris and first married Miss Geneva Barham in 1931, who preceded him in death on November 13, 1969. He later married Mrs. Pauline Bolton in December, 1970.

He was a longtime employee of the Texas Highway Department and retired from there in 1971 after working there some 27 years. He was a member of the Ramseur Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Troy Owens of Rt. 4, Paris and Peggy Lombard of Federal Way, Washington; two step daughters, Mrs. Jimmy Lee of Queen City, and Carlyn Bellemy of Paris; two stepsons, Dean and Mickey Bolton, both of Paris; and two brothers, Alvin (Happy) Shew of Ft. Worth and Pat Shew of Garland. Pallbearers were Sam T. Jones, Fred J. Ayers, Bill Purvis, James Middleton, Buddy Nash and C. G. Cass.2
