(Note that many online sources place the marriage in 1843. That date, drawn from an 1888 Goodspeed's biography of their son Leecil in Missouri, is patently in error, as is the other common online notion that Lot and Deborah had two children in Missouri in the years after Lot's death!).

Based on age and gender, his household could have included his wife Deborah Shew Day, his sons Thomas M. and Martin V. (males under age 5), his son Nicholas H. (male age 5-10), his daughters Mary Ann and Louisa J. (females under age 5). 
1850 Census6 Nov 1850 Lot Day and Deborah Shew Day appeared on the 1850 U.S. census of Cherokee County, AL, at 26th District enumerated 6 Nov 1850. Lot was shown as a 40-year-old farmer, born NC; Deborah as age 36, born NC. The two oldest -- Nicholas, 18, and Thomas, 16 -- were shown as born GA and having attended school. The others -- Mary, 13, Louisa, 11, Martin, 10, James, 9, Elvira, 8, Leecil, 7, and Henry, 5, and Lewis, 2 -- were all shown as born AL; only Mary of the younger children had attended school.

The two oldest children -- Sarah E., 14, and Margaret M., 12 -- were shown as born GA. All of the others -- 10-year-old twins Deborah C. and Elvira R; John, 5; Martha, 3; and Mary, 7 months -- were shown as born AL. A two-year-old boy named Reuben Polly was living with the Days. No family relationship is known. Note the naming of the girls: Mary's oldest brother Simon married Sarah; her older brother Daniel married Margaret; her sisters were Deborah C. and Elvira. Note that brother John Shew and family were living next door.
