Birth1810 Josiah Gentry, son of James Gentry, was born in 1810 at GA or MS. Note that, although some family histories suggest that Josiah is a son to Elijah Sr., and thus brother to Elijah, Jr., it is far more likely that he was Elijah Sr.'s grandson, a son of Elijah Sr.'s son James. Note the fact that Josiah named his first son James, and the common family naming pattern at the time was to name the first son for the father's father. This possibility is bolstered by the fact that Elijah Sr. made no reference to Josiah in his will in 1817, when Josiah was still clearly a minor, while specifically directing James to care for his mother.1,2 
1820 Census1820 Josiah Gentry appeared on the 1820 Census of 1820 in the household of Elijah Gentry of Wayne County, MS. Although his exact relationship to Elijah Gentry is yet unknown, it is likely that Josiah was a nephew (son of Elijah's brother James) rather than a brother as previously thought.3,4 
1830 Census1830 Based on age and gender, Josiah Gentry likely appeared on the 1830 Census of L in the household of Elijah Gentry. Most likely, he was Elijah's nephew, son of his brother James, and not a brother as previously thought.5 
Marriage17 Nov 1833 Josiah Gentry married Keziah or Kissiah Steele on 17 Nov 1833 at Rankin County, MS.2,6 
1850 Census21 Sep 1850 Josiah Gentry and Keziah Steele Gentry appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Smith County, MS, enumerated 21 Sep 1850. Josiah was shown as a 40-year-old farmer born GA. Keziah was shown as age 45, born SC. Their children James, John, Catherine, Barberry, Alfred and Josiah were listed as living with them. The children -- James, 13, John, 10, Catherine, 7, Barberry, 6, Alfred, 4, and Josiah, 2 -- were all shown as born MS. The older three were attending school.2

    Birthc 1818 Mary "Polly" Fore, daughter of Jesse Fore and Nancy C. [--M?--] Fore, was born c 1818 at prob NC. The 1850 Pulaski County KY census showed Mary as 32, or birthyear around 1818; 1860 Pulaski County KY census showed Mary as 39, or a birthyear around 1820-21; the 1870 Parker County census indicated an age of 55, or a date of birth around 1815. Because of the dates of birth of other children, 1818 is a reasonable theory.1 
    1830 Census1830 Based on age and gender, Mary "Polly" Fore was probably included as a free white female, age 10-15, in the household of her father, Jesse Fore, on the 1830 Census of Buncombe County, NC.2 
    Marriage18 Aug 1839 Mary "Polly" Fore married Matthew Johnson on 18 Aug 1839 at Union County, GA. Keith Townson, former Union County GA Rootsweb Coordinator, found a very small book "Union County GA Marriages" in the Rome-Floyd Library in Rome, GA. It had no publisher or copyright information, nor was there any information about the person who gathered the data and put it into book form. In that book, there was a record of a marriage of Mathew Johnson and Mary "Poore" in 1839. A copy of the certificate, No. 253, provided by the Union County Probate Court, identifies the day of the marriage as the 18th, but does not identify the month. However, the immediately following certificate, No. 254, is dated 19 Aug 1839, so August is most likely correct. 
    1840 Census1840 Mary "Polly" Fore was probably included as a free white female in the household of her husband, Matthew Johnson, on the 1840 Census of Union County, GA.3 
    1850 Census19 Jul 1850 Mary "Polly" Fore Johnson and Matthew Johnson appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Division No. 1, Somerset, Pulaski County, KY, enumerated 19 Jul 1850. Matthew was shown as a 37-year-old shoemaker, born VA; Mary was shown as age 32, born GA. Their children Sarah, Napoleon B., Louisa and James were listed as living with them. The oldest three children -- Sarah, 9, Napoleon, 7, and Louisa, 5 -- were shown as born GA; the youngest, James, age 1, was shown as born KY. Only Napoleon was shown as attending school.4 
    1860 Census1 Jun 1860 Mary "Polly" Fore and Matthew Johnson appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of District 1, Somerset, Pulaski County, KY, enumerated 1 Jun 1860. Matthew was shown as a 46-year-old shoemaker, born VA; Mary (Polly) as 39, born NC. Their children Napoleon B., Louisa, James, William F. P., Mary Perkins, Martha H. "Mattie" and Penelope Bertrand were listed as living with them. The older two children (Napoleon, shown as a 17-year-old clerk, and Louisa shown as age 13) were born GA; the others -- James K., 9; William, 7; Mary, 5; Martha, 3; and Nelly, 1, were all shown as born KY.5 
    1870 Census28 Aug 1870 Mary "Polly" Fore Johnson appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Parker County, TX, enumerated 28 Aug 1870. The family was in household 377. Mary was shown as age 55, born TN. Her children James, William F. P., Mary Perkins and Martha H. "Mattie" were listed as living with her. James was shown as age 19, born GA; William (W.D.) as 17, born KY; Mary as 24 (she was 14), born KY; and Martha (Mattie) as 12, born KY. Next door in household 376 was Napoleon B. Johnson with his wife Sarah and one-year-old son Francis.6
